    Beating Cool Season Grasses

I am having the same problem with brome and annual rye grass. One of my problems is half my plots are in accessible for another month due to wet ground. I have got rid of these grasses before by planting a roundup ready crop - like soybeans - or broadleaf crop like sunflowers - and spray and...

Do you get enough growth for radish at this late planting date?

    Lazy Food Plots

I have walked out in my neighbors pasture to loom. When I see a dozen deer in my wheat and clover and 30 deer out in the pasture 100 yards away, I wonder what is out there that I dont have. Fescue

    Lazy Food Plots

My next door neighbor is a cattle rancher. He loves fescue. He has 1200 acres. He lets a couple relatives and me hunt his place. Bow only, kill what you want, but you have to mount it. But, I digress. I have lush green food plots of wheat, rye, and various clovers. He has fescue. I have worked...

    Thoughts on age?

I agree - if in my area, would be at least 4 yrs. But, if this is a Kansas Deer, they are as big at 2 as ours are at 4 - so a little difficult for me to tell. He would be a shooter here.

    Drought and Survival

SW AR - nice gentle rain - first drop since end of August. The Aug rain was only rain since Jun 11. I am going to finally start planting my plots.

    No good...

Could be - but if that is a wound on the point of his hip - it doesnt appear to be all that bad. Deer are tough critters. I have seen some recover from pretty bad wounds. I wonder if he might be sick - EHD a good candidate this year

    Drought and Survival

I agree - weather predictors are often wrong and have no accountability. I have seen the accuweather app showing no chance of rain - when it is pouring and their own radar shows rain. I think why in the hell dont you just look outside and correct your app.

    Prospects 2022

I have a big old deer I am after. I think he is at least five and maybe six. Three years now of camera history. He has been a 4 pt the last three years. Big, old bruiser for here.

    Doves up and left!

That is the thing about it - I would plant the five acre field for a deer food plot anyway - just later. There is always enough top sown wheat to make a good plot. And no, 5 bags of wheat per acre will not ensure the doves stay - but the crows sure do like it.

    Doves up and left!

My doves started leaving end of July and were gone by first of Sept. plenty of food - they just left. I have seen them do this before. In my state, normal farming practice - which is considered the standard for legal dove hunting - allows for top sown wheat, beginning Aug 15, up to 240 lbs per...

    Dove Field Rotation Ideas?

Doves are birds. They have wings. They can fly away whenever they want. Some of the things I do for doves. Five acres of wheat I keep sprayed after maturity for doves to feed in all summer. Three feeders with corn or sunflower seeds. Spread 100 lbs sunflower seeds - every week - on bare dirt Jun...
