    Kaleo Hills-Property tour

Our spring turkey hunt. We’re on a self regulated one bird per season off the property, at least for now. I’m meeting a contract crew this week to help me out with burning. Can’t wait to get that started! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I sound just like a real Turkey

Looking for dinner in all the wrong places! I saw the biggest bobcat I’ve seen in person come check out our decoys last week. That was a first for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

We found one that wanted to commit this afternoon. This is my nine year olds first Tom, he shot a Jake last year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Live from the ground blind or tree trunk 2024

We called this Tom in yesterday afternoon. He strutted in the same spot (at 50 yards) for 45 minutes. Sometimes decoys aren’t your friend but they’re helpful to get a bird in range of an arrow or in this case my sons .410. I’m not letting him shoot past 35 yet and ideally 25. Sent from my...

Anyone else turkey hunting yet? Just had a huge Tom bobcat in the decoys, sacrificed the picture to wake my nine year old up. Hard to beat a sunrise like that! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Bedding Pockets

If you’re creating bedding in the middle of open woods you’ll need to consider the shade surrounding your cut to inform your minimum size. A quarter acre cut next to a field will get plenty of sun but that same size cut surrounded by mature timber will be mostly shaded and might not meet your...

    Grafting chores complete

Grafted a few trees last week. Four on Antonovka and four on M111. All the scion is late dropping (November) Rusty coat from a neighboring farm. I’m a bit of an amateur, you’d think I grafted 100 trees with this mess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Stone Branch, build it, they will come.

Awesome. I’m just a little jealous you have so much time to burn! I’m still optimistic I’ll get at least one unit burned this spring, we’ll see. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Dog Proof Traps in bear country

Our trapping season ends well before that’s a potential problem but I’d say it’s unlikely but not impossible. I caught a house cat last year which I thought was highly unlikely but it somehow managed to get ahold of the trigger. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Planting acorns with the kids

It’s planting day, my two youngest helped me put a quick 200 acorns in the “pots”. We went heavy on SWO this year with the remainder in NRO and black oak from our property. Plus a few rows of Alleghany Chinkapin! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Official timber harvest/logging thread

Definitely. Poplar is the dominant species in this stand and they’re aggressive stump spouters. There will be lots of poplar seeds that will take advantage of the plentiful sun too. I doubt I’ll get away with fire only. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
