    Luna's Tracking Journal 2016

Since Kunox can no longer track, I didn’t want him to have to watch Luna go on every one. Geri agreed to go to Florida earlier than normal and take him with her, so we drove down. I’m heading home and currently sitting in the USO in Philly waiting for my connecting flight to Watertown in a...

    Luna's Tracking Journal 2016

9/17/23 Luna and I had our first track of 2023 today! I was called this morning by a hunter I know that shot a bear at dusk last night. He and his friends tracked it for a little over 100 yards, then a very small grid search when they lost the track. We arrived in St Regis Falls at 12:45...

Thanks guys! I’m happy to see them being hit already.

    New plot, plot expansion, planting

Here’s an update on how the swamp plots are doing. The sweatshirt plot (my BIL lost his sweatshirt one fall in that location before the plot was in. Found it in the spring) has poor germination on one end where the operator scraped off too much topsoil while clearing.. I planted winter rye in...

I don’t know, Mark. He did say it was a 10,000 pound machine.

    New plot, plot expansion, planting

Thanks so much for the detailed explanation. I live in zone 4, so quite a difference. I really like the buckwheat idea in the spring. Is that just mowed? Or do you work it into the soil? I think I’ll spread some clover seed in December and see what happens. Thanks again for your help.

They all have amazing cover around them. It’ll be impossible to see them coming, but will hear splashing in the swamp to get the heart rate up!

Thanks for the informative response. I’ve got winter rye I’m going to spread in any parts of the plot the brassicas don’t do well. The areas closer to the swamp definitely have the best soil. The only tillage I did was scratching the surface with the short tines of my chain harrow. We go to...

    New plot, plot expansion, planting

I hired a guy this summer to come in with his excavator and skid steer to clear out the trees and stumps from a plot I expanded. It sits 10 yards from my swamp. He also cleared an area for a new plot near the swamp. I planted these two, plus a third plot with purple topo turnips, groundhog...

Northern NY 175 acre swamp property

Plot expansion and new plot underway! Scott came home from NH for the weekend and I had Northwoods Land Management lined up to come in. In preparation for the weekend, I had knocked down a lot of trees in the sweatshirt plot. The edge of the plot is 10 yards from the cattails. I won’t be...
