Deer Lease Drama (or how to drag your ass)

I've been known to chase some ass in my time, but never on another man's territory if you know what I mean.

    My Saturday Muzzleloader hunt.

Somewhere in West Tennessee there is an old xx75 aluminum arrow and a Thunderhead 125 stuck square in a tree limb about 12 feet off the ground. Only saw the antlers, never saw the limb but if you do this long enough it happens to everyone. Good story.

    Drought and Survival

Bolivar got good rain yesterday. Seems like it always tracks North of I-44. We are actually getting rain right now. Not sure how much it'll be though.

    Drought and Survival

Not enough rain in Springfield to cover the deck. Nice thought though! We're not as dry as you but pretty dusty still.

    Looking at 1911s

God opened up the heavens and cast complete wisdom upon John Browning the day he created the 1911. It just fits like none other, then and now.

2021 North Central Wisconsin “Lake Farm” - 35 acres on two lakes and surrounded by National Forest

This is my thinking exactly. Sounds like you're a hard one to slow down but I made some mistakes with chainsaw and dozer that I can never get back.

    Interesting observation. I wonder why?

Tornado zone “U” shaped food plot

I would think a massive amount of tree debris and hinge cut would encourage deer to bed close to their food source. I'd be more apt to plant the dreaded fescue or something entirely undesirable.

    Honey locusts

I've also had good luck with Tordon but I would girdle the trees first.

    Honey locusts

Yes, the "hands off" plot. Plant 1/4 acre and watch it spread to 3,4 acres in no time.

Anyone supplement the food plots with alfalfa in the winter months?

All good points above. Just to reiterate and just my .02 but I would not supplement with corn, hay or pellets at all. Your land has a carrying capacity, if you artificially alter that then stop feeding what then ? If you want to help feed them in the winter go cut some small to medium size trees...

    Sarge the Wonder Dog

Some decisions are easy. Some are not. Both come frequently. You did good by him and I know he loves you for it. I hope he gives you more years than you expect.

    What kind of seed?

    Synthetic lures

I'm with Native on this one. We can speculate all day long but you are never going to know for sure. Another thing to consider is what a deer does on my place regarding synthetic lures is not the same as one across the county or sometimes across the road. Why do some like turnips and other don't...

    Tree Stand Modification/Build

I have a roof that goes over a ladder stand. It's at camp but I've never used it. It is a simple A frame or pitched roof that attaches to the tree above the ladder stand the same as a lock on stand would. If you can weld or know someone who can mine was easy to make. Seems like I've seen some...
