Live from the Stand 2022

Had a spike chasing a doe this evening and then killed this mangy little mongrel about 10 minutes before sunset.

He is definitely in rough shape. You did him a favor.

In my blind at home this morning. I had a doe family in my wheat very early, I think the three does and button that I’ve had pics of but it was too dark to say for sure. They ate awhile and moved off to eat acorns I guess, still plenty of them on the ground. Just heard a shot on the neighbors to my N.
North wind and mid thirties, cloudy with slight chance of rain.

This is the recipe for a good hunt. My favorite rifle of all time and a Little Debbie oatmeal creme cookie…….breakfast of champions !

After the sun hit and warmed things up into the 20s, I had 15-25 deer in this 6acre plot complex for the balance of the day. With these numbers, it’s just a matter of time before one of our mature bucks pays a visit. I’ll fill my doe tag the last hour of the last day of the season.

I haven't been posting much in this thread, but I updated my property thread with some pictures tonight. Good luck to everyone.

Elk,

What’s in the plot ? Seems to be working.

Thanks.

Started with forage soybeans and overseeded with brassicas in August them rye in September. Did this across 6 acres…it’s been crushed. Forage soybeans at least doubled our deer numbers. The deer have stuck around for what remains. As soon as the snows pile up, the plots will be done. Hoping the deer spread out so we don’t have our browse too impacted.

Had a good night with my son in the woods. He was up to shoot but the doe came around on the wrong side of the tree. We were hunting on the ground and had a big tree to hide behind. She came around on the left side and I let her have it. Ran 40yds and got snagged by a tree.

You only get one doe tag? Looks like a pretty healthy population.

This guy walked by right after I left this morning to come home for church. I had to play with the lighting a bit cause it's so pixelated when you zoom in so it's hard to see the individual tines, but from what I can tell he looks pretty nice. Would have made for a good shot with the rifle. Also, I passed the same spike that I saw chasing a doe on Thursday evening. The movement seems to be getting back to normal after the loggers have moved further back into the neighbor's property.

In NY, you can take a doe with with archery and muzzle loader. I also have a landowner doe tag. Still not enough. I’ve got some friends with doe tags who will also help. With the explosion in numbers, I wish we could take 8-10. We only have 200 acres and I think we are supporting 40-50 deer.

14deg start but I know how to dress. Never was cold. Week of wind and snow. Today calm an sunny. 41 deer by 11. And couple 4 yo 8s I prob should’ve shot. But I’m n love w a tall rack 10 if he would show. I don’t like rifle season so it has be really nice for me to burn powder.
Off to NC tomorrow to daughters.
And the logger is dropping massive oaks this morning w thunderous landings. Between he and the F 22 fly bys i have stayed awake. Reading a book , looking up after each page.
What a morning.

15F turned into 55F. Two bucks and maybe a dozen does. Have a few under ten yards but decided to hold out.

Peak breading in our area is tomorrow, I’m really not a fan of hunting the peak of the bell curve.
