Son's 2016 rifle buck

I'm going to post these in my habitat thread but know that lots of folks don't have time to look at all the habitat threads.

This deer was 5 and maybe 6. I had lots of trail cam history on him, but he never came until December each year for the second rut. Last year he changed his pattern and followed one of my pet does into the farm during November gun season. Son and I were hunting together in the elevated blind and the rest is history.

Got him back this afternoon. Tax man fixed two broken tips, which added 3 inches. He said before the fix the gross score was 154 and was 157 after his repair.

If he had just average brows, he would've been stepping all over that 170" line, but then again, I often favor shorter brows because it really makes the rest of the rack show its size. Big brows can make the other tine length look short and disproportionate.

You have pics of lots of nice deer, which tells me deer like your place! ;-) For many people that would be the buck of a lifetime! For your son to get him... it just doesn't get any better!

Thanks Brush. Yes, we feel extremely blessed to still be hunting together and also to have a better chance of seeing older bucks than we once did. There aren't many old ones around here, but it does seem like our habitat work is starting to pay off.
