Haven't had much time to post but i have a couple updates 4-30-17 We are suppose to get some rain finally so we bought some seed and spent the weekend turning up dirt and throwing some seed. Bucketwheat, Pea, Brown Top Millet, Rape, Clover Pines plot is looking nice The new plot has some nice dirt
Hog enjoying the new seedlings Some beers too...they also broke the handle off the boat winch trying to get to the feeder...1/2 bolt I spilled peas right here when i was planting, this buck was here a couple days in a row. Lots of traffic
I got some new Mulberry Cuttings Afghan Mulberry and Everbearing Mulberry. Both are fairly large and are producing in the area. We have been getting lots of raining so the seedlings coming up and finally growing. And finally some fried venison dinner!!!
Nice looking plots, good work. I'll occasionally use some of Whitetail Institute's seed but only when I can get a good deal on it. Ernst Seed is 20 minutes from my farm so I don't have to buy the buck on bag stuff very often. I got Power Plant shipped to my house for $2 a pound so I am trying their new formula with the hemp in it this year. They do have good products and when I see them at the hunting shows, they are always super nice and knowledgable folks.
The pasture plot isn't growing very well. Grass and weeds have taking most of it over. There are a couple beans that grew really well in my dad's old garden spot.
The pond has come up a lot abt 30" horizontally. With my back to the pond. The ditch is working well here is only a little water sitting on the plot.
The pines plot is doing the best and has some of the best growth i have had. I'm not really sure why cause the soil in both other plots should be better. Under the stand.
Here is a idea of the water level change in three weeks. Not sure on the dates of the last two because my camera went crazy. But i pulled the cards on the 6-9 and the first picture is dated right at 5-22.
I had to use my kayak to check a camera yesterday. I was very excited when i looked at the pictures. A pair of nice bucks but the time and date is all messed up again. So all i know is sometime in the last 2 months. Peas are getting hammers so nice to replant. First fawn on camera. Which is late for us.
Looks like my bear count went up...date should show 2017...guess i need to update that camera. Im very glad she couldn't reach the feeder. I'm going to dig out the area under it a little more so daddy bear cant reach it either.
A week before season opens and Florida is getting rocked by the largest Hurricane to date to hit Florida...Went to the woods anyways to check the cameras and make sure the stands are ready for Saturday. Looks like all the stands have deer should be a good opening morning as long as the storm doesnt mess up the movement.
Lots of active just haven't had the right deer or right shot during archery. Hogs are destroying the pines. Yet havent been able to get a picture of them...not even under the feeder. I setup another camera on where i think they are coming in.
Finally found some time to plant some tree in the pasture. I picked up three Florida King peach trees at tractor supply half off. I have some chestnuts i started from seed this spring and mulberries i started from cuttings. The fig i planted earlier this year is doing well. Also started from cutting and already producing.
Anyone feeding soybeans? Picked up the feeder to try it out. I'm hoping the bears and coons don't destroy it. I plan on setting up the live traps to try to control the coons.
