Plots are growing great! I didn't take any pics of anything else but everything is growing gain-busters.

Awnless wheat: still not sure what to make of this stuff, it's the first yr I've planted it. I like wheat (it draws deer better than rye or oats at my place), curious if this awnless will draw deer any when it ripens. It isn't exactly awnless as it still has some little one's sticking out. Whatever the case it sure is going to produce some grain, those are pretty long heads.

Winter rye for comparison...

Remember the two fish structures that my boys and I built and put in a while back? Fished them for the first time yesterday. Tore up the crappie! We fished the whole lake before trying that spot. My boy caught several 2 - 3.5lb bass and I caught a couple little crappie. We hit that spot and started pulling 13in slabs out. It was a blast! Loved putting something in that made a difference! We.saved a couple for the frying pan :)

It's around 30yrs old and I know it hasn't been stocked in the last 20 or so... probably never. We get the occasional heavy rain that probably washes pond fish into it. Otherwise natural populations.

You need a different contract... Teachers here are out for summer and singing the summertime praises on FB and then about late July the whining begins...

Contracts suck, I would rather be paid hourly! I outwork my contract daily.
I welcome the change that summer brings but I don't stop working just cause the kids stop showing up. Lots still needs done to be decent at my job next yr... And you'll never hear me complain about going back to work after having a looong vacation! I worked 3yrs at my old job to earn 10days of vacation time, 5yrs before I got 15day's per yr off. Time off is a precious commodity and I'll always be grateful for a day with the family!

That's good...what do you do at the school now that the kids aren't coming or are you preparing from home?

I have a niece, 2 cousins and their spouses, and 3 personal friends that are teachers. I get pretty aggravated listening to them...16 weeks a year off should be plenty for them I would think but you wouldn't know it to listen...

Having said that I work 5 12's and 2 8's a week Starting in May of every year and get to go back to 40 hours come October 1st and I don't take vacation other than in the fall to hunt...I accrue 6 hours every 2 weeks of leave and I bank the heck out of it...

I'm at the school right now and have been every day since school let out, except for travel days related to coaching (State Track meet was Friday and Saturday). Inventory, cleaning, prepping for next yr, etc. I have a physics lab, chem lab, biology lab, and dissection lab to keep organized and stocked. Lots goes into doing that right. I also spend time each summer putting together new labs and experiments so that I'm prepared to add them next yr. (Got to add that I've spent way to much time near the computer today! Need to turn the damn thing off so that I don't run over every time I hear an update notification. But then I wouldn't be able to jam to the radio, it's like a party with no kids in the classroom!) :)

I start taking classes tomorrow for license renewal (have to earn 4hours of college credit this summer). I also have to take a course and a $150 Exam to get a "Remote Pilots License" so that I can teach programming with a drone next yr.

What part of summer that doesn't get eaten up with that stuff will be spent with athletes at camps or individual training.

Your teacher relation are probably like most people and have a little negative streak in them. I know plenty of people with lots of money who want more, people lots of time who want more, a loving wife but want the mistress next door, great hunting land but travel for a hunt, etc. In my humble opinion, I think many people don't understand how good they have it and instead of talking about the positives they bring up the negatives. Probably part of our culture to focus on negatives or drama instead of personal accomplishments and positives.

5 twelves and 2 eights is a lot of work! Doesn't give a guy much time to do habitat work but you plan it out for hunting season well. How is your polebarn build/plan going? I'm clearing a spot and about ready to pull the trigger on one...

Glad to hear you are at school. My relations tell me they arent wanted at school because the AC is off and they don't want them using anything like the toilet that would have to be cleaned or create water usage...basically schools shuttered until August when they get 2 weeks to get the classroom ready. I know my niece spends 1 day the weekend before school starts getting hers ready but my wife had to block her FB because of all the crying

My regular gig is just 5 8's but the brushhogging really kicks in these months and August and September my Kubota really gets the abuse because everyone wants it cleaned up before fall...that's ok because I enjoy my time working.
Having said all of that my wife sometimes has to do things for her job that makes me looking I am a couch potato...several weeks at a time traveling for work and working days, nights, weekends in other states. South Dakota right now doing this...

Pole barn will be our spring project next year. Both of us are saving cash to do it so we have no payments! Have I mentioned I hate payments? Lol

I envy your fish pictures...I loved fishing most of my life but haven't been able to find time to go for many, many years now...:(

Had an hour of daylight left last night so I took the boys to the creek for some flats and gar (and snakes). Nice evening!

I'll be glad when I get my trail-camera back! This isn't him (he was the first to leave the plot and I didn't get the camera out in time) but one of them is already what I consider big. Well past his ears...

I have been happy with my moultrie 880 from Rogers outdoors. At 60 something a piece can't go wrong
I just sent my second Moultrie back in a yr. So the one they send back will be my third. Customer service has been great but I don't think I want to shell out more money until I can get one to last more than a couple of months.

Got to take some pics this evening and document some of what they are eating right now. They (7 bucks in this bachelor group) started in the native burn and stayed for a while eating mostly what looked like forbs. Then they moved to a plot and ate wheat heads, clover, chicory, cheat grass, and I think radish bolts.

Even though they are in velvet they still like to rub (just on softer stuff than in the fall). I'm guessing this weed has an oder to it. I'll probably go check tomorrow evening to see if there is anything particular about this weed. He spent several minutes working it over. I'll also confirm some of what I think they were eating.
