    Persimmon Scions

Just bringing this thread back up. Several members over the past couple years have been very kind in sharing their scions with me for my big persimmon orchard. I’m always looking to add more variety, so if anyone has persimmon scions to share, please reach out!

    Persimmon Scions

Again this year, I’m looking for persimmon scions to graft. If any of you have any known varieties or unique varieties that you are willing to share scions from, I’d love to make them a part of the orchard my grandfather and I planted. Happy to swap scions if you need something I have or pay for...

    Driveway tree planting

Well luckily for me, being in Southwest Mississippi near the River, we’ve got tons and tons of magnolias growing everywhere. (They’re perfect for hanging stands in, btw; evergreen cover.) I might plant a couple at the gate to screen the drive.

    Driveway tree planting

I am planning a new tree planting project for the driveway of my farm in Southwest Mississippi. The gravel drive is approx 200 yards long, ditched, with 20’ of shoulder across the ditches on each side. The drive is surrounded by heavily thinned mature pines and gets a reasonable amount of...

    Persimmon Graft Results

I have some leftover scions and about a dozen persimmon seedlings I planted last year in 5 gal rootmakers. Is it too late to graft? Even if I can keep them in a reasonable amount of shade and watered regularly since they are at my house. I know grafting is typically done in the spring, I just...

    Grafting tool

I got one several years ago, and have only had around 10% success rate using it. I don't use it anymore.

    Persimmon Scions

I didn’t do much scion collection this year so I have nothing to trade, but I’ll gladly take any persimmon varieties you are willing to share. I need some grafting scions this season. I have plenty of varieties of pears and apples on my farm I can share in the future.

What is on your planting list in 2019?

I am not planting much on my farm this year as we are thankfully working right now to open new ground and expand some existing food plots and orchard areas, so I will be planting extra next season. I am however taking care of an entire backyard nursery that has various persimmon, mulberry...

    On the hunt for persimmons

I have reached out in years past, but again I am looking for anyone who would like to share unique persimmon scions with me. I have an orchard on my farm in Mississippi planted with nothing but native persimmons (around 30 trees) that my grandfather and I planted in 2012. It won't seem like much...

    Persimmon Scions

I have an orchard of native persimmons on my farm in Mississippi that my grandfather and I planted in 2013, roughly 25 trees and I am adding about 10-15 more to fill the area out. Most of them are getting close to fruiting size. Luckily for me, the small food plot I chose to convert into this...

    February Habitat Management

Deer season has come and gone, February is here, and it’s time to get to work! Habitat management happens year ‘round, but late winter and early spring are my favorite times to be out in the woods working on habitat projects! What projects do y’all have planned for this off-season? And it’s...

    Persimmon and Crabapple Scions

The deer hit it like nothing you’ve ever seen in the early fall. It’s a major food source in the Deep South. I’ve heard the Soil composition in the South makes the pods taste sweeter than in other parts of the country. I don’t know if that’s true, but it definitely is worth hunting over

    Persimmon and Crabapple Scions

When I propagate native honeylocust, I boil them and soak them in hot water to replicate the digestion process. I get probably 90% germ on native seeds. I got zero on the Hershey/Calhoun.
