12 Gauge Longbeard Patterns

I attended a NWTF sanctioned still target shoot today in KY and we shot Longbeard in 12 and 20 gauge.

In these events we are trying to put as many pellets as possible in a 3 inch circle at 40 yards. We were shooting Longbeard, 3 inch #6 shot today in 12 gauge and #5 shot in 20 gauge.

I had 3 shots scoring over 50 pellets and one that was 49. My friend shot a 30 for the high score in 20 gauge, which I think is awesome for 20 gauge and #5 shot..

Below are a couple of my targets in 12 gauge. One was 55 pellets (highest score for the day) and I think the other was 53 but I don't remember for sure. Pellets touching the black line don't count.

I really want to try the XR Longbeards in a 20 gauge for my son's gun. This is his 20 gauge this year at 40 yards shooting an Indian Creek choke. I tried a Redhead Blackout and a Carlsons too but the Indian Creek did best

Yes, those are really nice.

What choke were you using?

I was using an Indian Creek .665 in a gun that has had some chamber tweaking. We call that an Open Class gun.

But, last year a friend of mine from Tennessee shot the current world record with a completely stock Browning Gold Hunter using an Indian Creek choke just like mine.

Even though these competitions are shooting a 3 inch circle, I like looking at a pattern in a 10 inch circle for evaluating a gun used for hunting. Those 20 gauge patterns you posted are really nice and it looks like you have an excellent setup. I really like your Magnum Blend pattern.

This is my 12 gauge with an Indian Creek choke at 60 yards using a 3.5 inch XR'S Longbeard #6's. I'm more than pleased. Killed this nice bird this year at 63 steps. He flopped twice
