House and Habitat build thread:

Checked the throw n mow plots this morning. Not a lot of apparent use, but they sure are producing well!

Ducks have moved in big time!

And I flushed a flock of prairie chickens. We use to have tons of these and they were a favorite of mine to hunt. It's rare to see them now but we do maintain a small flock on the far end of the place. Not a good pic...

My son has a new hitlist buck (He changes his mind about every card pull on which deer he "wants" to shoot. Luckily he doesn't get hung up on it and shoots whatever gets his heart pumping).

Hmmm when does your duck season close? Maybe we should just schedule that tree delivery for a couple days before then.:)

You definitely own my dream property!

Personal delivery... you just don't get that kind of service anymore! :)
Maybe someday we can trade hunts for hunts, or for trees.

Progress on the house has been slooooow lately. I have managed to get some finish work (trim and doors) done on the basement though.

I love your son's "moving hit list" Just took a grandson to some stores to develop his "list" for Christmas. His song is "all I want for Christmas is everything I see"

Ha, my kids were both like that for a while. They wanted EVERYTHING.

My boy had a shot at his new hitlist buck Wednesday night.

It came through right under the stand, stood broadside for half a minute, gave a snort wheeze and chased a little 8 pt off.... This was all 30 minutes after he had already shot another buck. Gut shot it and watched bed for an hour before getting up right at dark and walking away.

Waited until the next morning to try to find it. Lot of blood up to his bed, very little after that.

In that one pic, I swear I think I see a "hill" . Congrats on son's success. And you know I love those Kansas sunsets.
Lol, we have a hill or two!
I actually thought of you when I posted that pic. Sunrise though...

Rain in the forecast taday so I grabbed some seed I collected this fall and started planting. Two types of swtchgrass, some wild sunflowers (they will get 10ft tall and make great cover), and Indian grass.

I planted in mowed rows to help get soil/seed contact, and also just broadcasted into native stands. The mowed rows will also help me find plants before they mature to gauge success.

I love my millet food plots. Over head high, great screen and cover, and tons of late season seed for the birds!
