Double A Farm (NE Ohio) Updates

Excited & nervous. Girls both started new adventures this year, one started high school, the other middle school. Where does the time go?

Got a good bit of work done for a one day trip. Here's a few pics of how the plots are progressing.

Picture of approach to one of the hidden plots, love to see all that green.

My failed corn plot doesn't look too terrible in some spots.

And where it is terrible, no worries. The brassica mix I broadcasted a month ago is kicking butt. I left half of the open dirt for broadcasting winter rye and I got that done yesterday.

Got all my mowing done, as you can see the clover strip next to me above. I even prepped a spot for some Cave-in-Rock switchgrass. I'll come back & nuke this with gly in a few weeks then frost seed it over the winter.

Stand access paths were mowed in the tall goldenrod.

And the clover in the orchard & chestnut grove was mowed as well. Need to clean up the cages one more time this year also.

Plots are looking good! Looks like you are ready and will have plenty of food sources for the deer. My corn did great this year, beans and peas were a bust. I think the 1700 pounds of amonium nitrate may have helped:D

Thanks everyone. Been crazy busy here getting ready for the season as I'm sure all of you are too. Good luck to everyone, I know some early archery seasons have opened across the country already. My home state of PA has an early antlerless archery season opening this Saturday. I'm looking forward to getting back into a tree stand.

Trying to get the bathroom project done at the farm so we can have hot showers this season.

Going to frame in the walls and get the plumbing in over the next few trips. Since the cabin is off grid, I'll be setting this up like an RV system. I got an on-demand propane hot water shower system & a 12 volt pump.

Plots look happy! You are going to love having hot water:D Nothing like a shower after a dusty work day for a clean ride home or being as scent free as possible before a hunt.

We built an outdoor shower down at our deer lease a few years ago. Early season it is great but come late October and later it becomes like an ironman deal

Most of us bought better campers now and since we carry our own water onboard we can have some pretty nice warm indoor showers now...almost too nice!

Looks like great moisture up that way to grow everything like it has. Congrats on that!

Thanks Johnny. This bathroom will be enclosed and heated along with the on demand hot water shower. I'm getting too old and soft for cold wind and cold showers!

I had a few suckers coming off one of my ornamental fruit trees at home in the yard. When I pulled this one, it had a surprising number of roots still attached. Into a roottrapper bag and it's alive and well. This is some kind of Japanese cherry or crabapple, can't remember. Gets little red fruits on it.

I also cut a bunch of willow shoots from the back yard and put them into a bucket of water for a few weeks. They rooted and are growing nicely. Not the best wildlife trees but they are free and will offer more diversity. I'd like to have a willow thicket someday at the farm. These things grow super fast.

Your plots are looking fantastic Weasel. Hope your deer season works out as good as everything else you've done so far!

Good stuff. I hope this forum stays up forever 'cause I may just copy your shower house one of these days. There is city water near my cabin area, but more than 1/4 mile away, that would be a lot of pipe, but might be worth it. I thought with that water and a tankless propane water heater I would be in business.
